Wedding Photography - Paula's frequently asked questions!

Please send me a message if you need a chat!

Q.  I would like a quote for wedding photography or civil partnership coverage - what information will you require from me?

A.  I only quote for events that I am available to cover, so I will start by asking when and where your ceremony is.  I will also ask about the numbers of guests attending, expected start times of ceremony, reception, evening event & finish time.

Q.  Where may we meet you to discuss our plans if required?

A.  Client meetings usually take place at my home in Adel, Leeds 16, or at your home. I will never ask you to discuss your budget or other personal requirements in a coffee shop or pub!  I'm equally happy to meet you via Skype or telephone if you prefer.  Couples who live some distance from Leeds often prefer "virtual" meetings.

Q. We would like to proceed with a booking - when do we pay?

A. Some payment is due at the time of booking, this is the retainer and is usually non-refundable.  The amount varies according to the value of the photography you are booking.  For example, a wedding photography deposit is usually £250 and a portrait session deposit may be £50.  For wedding photography the balance is due one month prior to the wedding.  For smaller events and portrait photography the balance may be paid two weeks in advance.

Q. How do I pay Ollievision Photography?

A. I am happy to accept payment by Visa, bank transfer, Paypal or cash.  Payments are usually handled via my online invoicing system.

Q.  Do you have insurance?  The venue say we must have an insured photographer.

A.  Yes.  The type of insurance required by professional photographers is both public liability and professional indemnity - not the kind that protects their equipment in case of damage but the kind that protects their clients and the venues they work in.  I will be happy to email my insurance certificate to your venue if requested.  Please ask your venue to contact me before the wedding as I don't usually carry my certificate on me.

Q. Do you charge travel expenses or any other additional fees?

A. At the time of enquiry I will ask you questions regarding the locations and any travel expenses will be built into the quote you receive, or listed separately at the time of booking.  I will never surprise you with extra charges that were not discussed prior to you booking.

Q. What kind of wedding albums can you supply?

A.  In common with most professional photographers I can supply almost any brand or size of album that you desire. These include the main types such as coffee table layflat ones and traditional mounted ones.  It's important that you base your choice of photographer on the important things - such as how you like their work and how you get along with them - rather than getting too caught up in albums!  The choice of albums is quite mind boggling, even for me, so I try to help my clients by keeping it simple.  I have various samples available to suit any budget and these can be viewed when appropriate.  Most of my packages include a set of print resolution photographs that enables you to create your own album if you prefer.

Q.  What if our plans for the day change?

A.  Clients may amend their packages as they wish, by adding/swapping items or extending coverage.  I usually only photograph one wedding a weekend, so if the location, time or duration of your celebrations change after contracts have been signed there is usually no issue other than to agree any additional fees that may be required.

Q.  Can you do "vintage" wedding photography?

A.  Yes, vintage is simply a style of processing that is applied when the photographer processes the pictures on their computer.  This can be achieved in different ways to give different vintage effects.  If you require vintage or classic film effect wedding photos then just say so during your initial enquiry.  You may have noticed that some wedding photographers advertise as being "vintage", this only means that all their processing is done in a vintage style unless a "modern" style is requested.  I'm the other way around - I process in a modern style unless vintage is requested.

Q.  Are you able to provide a full gallery service, including digital downloads?

A.  Yes.  My online gallery has a high specification to enable full online print ordering and digital downloads.  Free downloads are included in all wedding photography packages to make sharing your wedding photos easy with friends around the world.  There will be no need for you to email photos to people, you just issue the password to whoever you want and they log in to download their photos.  You can test the gallery functions by accessing this album using the password "demo".

Q.  Can you supply in black & white?

A.  Yes.  You will notice that a proportion of the photos on my website are in black and white.  I usually supply some photos from each wedding or event in B&W.  The proportion varies according what fits the event best and sometimes technical considerations mean that a B&W photo looks better than the colour version.

Q.  How much are your prints for wedding clients?

A.  I have a sample album set up so that you can see how my online gallery functions.  The current wedding print prices appear in that album just as they would in your own. You can access the sample gallery here.  Please enter the password "demo".

Q.  Do you do gift vouchers?

A.  Yes, I have gift vouchers available that may be added to your gift list.  They can be purchased via my website and paid for on Visa, Paypal or bank transfer.  You can view gift vouchers here.

Q.  Can you help us find reputable suppliers for other wedding related services?

A.  Yes, I'm happy to help.  You can start by viewing my recommended suppliers page.

Q.  Are you able to offer special assistance to people who are exceptionally nervous or have medical conditions?

A.  Yes. I have experience of working with clients who are nervous of being photographed (including phobia) and am willing to spend time preparing couples who may need extra help and confidence building.  Being available to my clients via meetings, phone and Facebook in the months leading up to the wedding means that I am no longer a stranger when the big day comes along.

Many of my clients already have children and I pay the same attention to preparing the children and ensuring they will be comfortable in front of the camera. Please mention any special circumstances at the time of your enquiry so that I can assess the level of assistance required.

Q. Do you photograph civil partnerships?

A. Yes, I am happy to photograph civil partnerships.
