More about me and my journey as a professional musician...

When did you start composing your own music?

I'm not really sure, definitely by age 7. My parents say I started very young. I have a video of my first advertising jingle composed when I was 9 for a competition. Watch it here if you dare!

When did you start singing?

I started singing as a baby, around 1 year old.  My mum says it was obvious that "music lives inside you." So they encouraged me to sing at church and at school.  When I was 10 I attended a "be a chorister for a day" experience at Leeds Minster.  Dr Lindley, the choir master, assured my parents that they needed to send me to sing there!  So I began training as a chorister aged 10 and passed my singing & music theory exams.  I became head chorister and principal soloist, taking private bookings across Yorkshire.  After my voice broke I transferred to the men's choir until I took my GCSE exams.

I currently perform 2-3 times a week, usually as an acoustic guitarist & singer.

What qualifications do you have?

In terms of music, I have GCSE grade 9 and A level grade A

ABRSM grades:

Acoustic guitar grade 8 Distinction,

Classical singing grade 8,

Music theory grade 5

I am now studying my final year of a music degree at University of Oxford. I'm aiming for full time work as a performer, composer & song writer.

What guitars do you play?

I've been playing LAG guitars since I was 8. I own several of them. My newest one is a Hyvibe 30 which is the world's first “smart guitar.”

The photo shows me aged 8 on the day I got my first "grown up" guitar!

What instruments can you play?

I started learning guitar when I was 7. I play guitar, ukulele, bass guitar and have previously played sitar.  I played saxophone at school and reached around grade 6 standard.  I also played drums & percussion.

I'll have a go at any instrument really!  The only thing I've never really got along with is the flute.

Can you read music if we give you sheet music or do you require a particular format?

I am fluent in reading notation (sheet music) and can sing from sight so I learn new music very quickly.

I can read guitar music as notation, chords and TAB. I can also create written music from client recordings.
